Curiosity For Off the Beaten Paths
Hello everyone! I’m Ray and I am a travel wanderlust that has a penchant for travelling to off the beaten paths in the world. The more offbeat the location is, the more it satisfies my curiosity!
I hail from Singapore, a traditional Asian powerhouse where I was brought up with the notion that success is defined as good academics, snaring a high paying corporate job, and going for luxurious holidays.
A competitive and routine society, not many take to the idea of throwing caution to the wind to travel remotely and adventurously.

Thought-provoking Cold War history lessons conducted by my History teacher had awed me since high school.
The wild and unthinkable way that life was led in the Soviet Union and Communist-ruled countries particularly evoked my curiosity. I was also a geek when it came to binging on the history and national geographic channels that showcased how different other parts of the world are.
I was fascinated about how people could live lives governed by different rules, surrounded by exotic architecture or brought up with extreme ideology.
Having scrimped and saved, I undertook my first backpacking trip to Russia at the age of 21. It was there that I managed to redefine what traveling means to me.
Travelling to me either be one of exotic travel or one where it is holiday travel. I lived out of hostels, flew budget, and ate meals counting to the cents and dollars. Despite being on that shoestring budget, I managed to experience everything on a tourist checklist.
I constantly get questioned on why I “crazily” embark on trips to off-the-beaten paths. Exotic locations are often more costly, but also more dangerous. Yet, these are the adventures that particularly stay etched in my mind, which motivates my crazy again.
The first step is always the hardest!
With the right budgeting, planning and more importantly the will to do so, you and I could stretch ourselves to experiencing places we only dreamed of.
I have had the fortune of travelling to over 40 countries and 60 cities in the world, all with their unique culture. Averaging about 60 days abroad in a year, I am constantly planning and looking forward to my next trip. My favourite destinations lean towards those of the road-less-travelled, the off-the-beaten-paths. That said, I have also learnt to enjoy my fair share of holiday trips which provide the occasional respite.
Through my writing, I hope to share with you all the travel tips, budgeting, and planning that can help you with your own adventure!
